If you are looking for an alternative way of straightening your teeth, Invisalign may be an option for you. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign are clear, plastic aligners that fit directly over your teeth but still work, slowly over time, to realign your teeth. With Invisalign, you do not have to be embarrassed by shiny metal brackets and wiring associated with traditional orthodontics.
Is Invisalign as good as traditional braces?
Yes! Just like metal braces, Invisalign applies a small amount of pressure on your teeth, which helps correct an uneven bite, crooked teeth, and other orthodontic issues.
Why is Invisalign better than traditional braces?
Although traditional braces are still effective, Invisalign offers some advantages that metal braces simply cannot provide, including:
- Appearance – Invisalign aligners are clear, and no one will even be able to tell you are wearing them.
- Comfort – Invisalign does not have any brackets or wires, which means nothing poking your cheeks and gums. You will be surprised at how comfortable your Invisalign aligners are to wear.
- Safety – Since Invisalign aligners are smooth and have no sharp components, they are safer, should you bump your mouth. Plus, nothing will scratch the inside of your mouth like traditional braces. Also, Invisalign is safer for your teeth by allowing you to easily brush and floss without the hassle that traditional braces bring. To care for your teeth during Invisalign treatment, simply remove your aligners and carry about your normal dental hygiene routine of brushing and flossing daily.
- Length of treatment – Treatment with traditional braces may last up to five years! With Invisalign, the duration of most treatment is anywhere from one year to one and a half years. Length of treatment will vary for each patient, depending on his or hers needs.
How does Invisalign work?
You will have an individualized treatment plan that specifies how long your treatment will last and how many aligners are needed. Every set of aligners are custom-made and are to be worn in two-week increments. You only remove your aligners when you eat, brush, and floss. Every couple of weeks you will switch out your aligners for a new set. Each new set will be slightly different from the previous set as they slowly work to realign your teeth.
