what you should know about veneersPalm Beach Gardens and Jupiter, Florida

If you are searching for a way to improve your smile, correcting multiple cosmetic issues at once, then veneers may be an option for you. A versatile treatment, veneers can hide imperfections such as teeth that are misshapen, chipped or cracked, giving you an overall straighter look to your smile, and providing you with permanently white teeth – forever! Cosmetic dentist in Palm Beach Gardens Dr. David Benson has some information to share with you about veneers, and how this treatment can transform your smile.

What are veneers?

Hand-crafted from thin layers of dental porcelain, veneers are made to mimic tooth enamel, and fit directly over the front portion of your teeth, unlike a dental crown that covers the entire exterior. Veneers, when placed over your teeth, can give the appearance of straighter teeth without orthodontics. Plus, since the porcelain can be chosen in a much whiter shade than your actual teeth, you can achieve an overall whiter smile that never fades or becomes dingy! Veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth and can provide you with a stunningly beautiful smile within a couple of weeks.

Can I still get cavities?

Even if veneers cover your teeth, you may still be at risk for tooth decay. You still have natural tooth structure exposed on the backside of your teeth. Plus, the very back teeth such as your molars, will not have veneers, and therefore are subject to decay still. Oral hygiene consisting of brushing twice a day and flossing daily is still recommended even after getting your veneers placed. Not only is this good for your oral health, but it helps prolong the effectiveness of your new restorations.

What is the lifespan of veneers?

The answer to this question will vary, depending on how well you take care of your teeth, and how you use them. In other words, take good care of your teeth, visit your family dentist in Palm Beach Gardens twice a year for checkups and cleanings, and avoid using your teeth to cut packages, or bite on your fingernails or pens. Be good to your veneers, and they will be good to you. In general, however, veneers should last at least 10 years or more.

Will my veneers match my other teeth?

This depends on how many veneers we place. Sometimes, a patient may only need one or two front teeth repaired. In these instances, we can certainly choose a shade that matches your other teeth to give you a completely natural, seamless look. Otherwise, if you desire a smile makeover, then we could choose the porcelain in a much whiter shade than your original tooth color. So, the color that we choose will be dependent on your specific case.

Will my veneers stain?

Veneers are made of porcelain. Therefore, they will not stain. You can consume wine, coffee, eat berries and marinara sauce without the worry of your teeth staining like before.

Will my dental insurance cover the cost of veneers?

This will depend entirely on your dental insurance policy. Some policies may pay up to half to the cost of a pre-negotiated rate. However, some plans will not pay anything at all if the procedure is considered purely cosmetic. Keep in mind that at PGA Smiles, we offer various forms of payment, as well as third-party financing so that you can afford the smile of your dreams without waiting to save up the money before you get started.
